4-star RB Chauncey Bowens de-commits from Florida Gators, flips to Georgia
Four-star running back Chauncey Bowens of Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) Benjamin has de-committed from Florida and flipped to Georgia.
His move comes only three days after Bowens told On3 he was “100 percent” committed to the Gators. Bowens is the No. 16 running back nationally according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
He committed to Florida last September.
Bowens flipped to the Bulldogs while on his official visit to Georgia. He has been scheduled to officially visit the Gators on June 16 but as of now we believe that trip is off.
The Bowens de-commitment leaves Florida with seven verbals in the 2024 class, which had been ranked No. 5 by On3 entering Saturday.
Although privately the Gators were concerned about Bowens entering his Georgia official, Bowens said this after competing in a 7-on-7 team camp at Florida on Wednesday: “(The Gators) were here early. I know early in my career, I didn’t have as many offers as I do now of as many big schools. Florida was here early and they’ve always been genuine and kept in contact. … WhenI came here to Florida, it was really a dream school. And a feeling in my heart that this was the environment and was the best place for me to succeed.”

But he noted the Bulldogs were a “threat.”
“Coach Smart has been in Athens and he’s dominated the last two years,” Bowens said. “They try to present the proof in the pudding and with sending running backs to the league.”
Where will the Gators go next without Chauncey Bowens in the class?
Florida now has one running back committed for 2024 — 4-star Kahnen Daniels of West Point (Miss.). It hopes to sign two or three in the class.
Will the Gators continue to recruit Bowens? That is unclear.
Meanwhile, Florida has continued to recruit 4-star back Jerrick Gibson of Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy, the No. 2 running back in the country. He’s a Gainesville, Fla., native and one-time Florida commit. But Texas is trending big for him at the moment.
