Following Monday’s commitment from 2023 cornerback Sharif Denson, the Gators now have the No. 17 recruiting class with On3 Sports. They moved up three spots after previously checking in at No. 20.

Florida, which holds commitments from nine prospects, also has the No. 6 recruiting class in the SEC. Eight of those rising seniors residing the Sunshine State, while four-star athlete Aaron Gates lives roughly five hours north in Sharpsburg, Georgia.

The Gators’ class features five offensive players and four on the defensive side of the ball.

The highest-ranked prospects in the class are Denson and four-star EDGE Isaiah Nixon, who flipped from UCF less than a week ago. Both rank inside the top 200 of the On3 Consensus and are top-25 prospects at their respective positions.

Additional top Gators targets are expected to come off the board in the near future as well.

Some of those notable names include EDGE Malik Bryant, defensive lineman Derrick LeBlanc, offensive tackle Payton Kirkland, running back Treyaun Webb and wide receiver Eugene Wilson III.

According to the On3 Consensus, the Gators are trending heavily for LeBlanc, Wilson and Kirkland.

Considering where the board stands, I will be surprised if Florida does not have a top-15 class by the fall.

Denson will follow in the footsteps of his parents

Denson has been getting recruited by UF since his freshman year, as that is when Dan Mullen’s staff extended an offer. He has been on campus a countless amount of times and certainly knows the ins and outs of both the program and university. It sure did not hurt that his parents graduated from UF as well.

When it was all said and done, it was the defensive back’s comfort level and tight-knit relationship with the staff that pushed the Gators over the top.

Texas A&M, Miami, Ohio State, Florida State and South Carolina were under consideration as well.

“The constant love from the whole staff. You can’t beat that. They’re at a good little spot right now,” Denson recently told GO’s Donavon Keiser.

“Coach Toney and Corey Raymond are top-tier coaches and will develop me to be an NFL DB. Also, Florida has been my dream school growing up.”
