Transfer guard AJ Brown commits to Florida Gators

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The 2025-26 Florida men’s basketball team will include the Brown brothers. Ohio transfer guard AJ Brown committed to the Gators on Thursday, he told On3’s Joe Tipton, following his official visit to UF.
Brown will be a redshirt junior next season with two years of eligibility remaining. He’s the older brother of Florida guard Isaiah Brown and both played high school basketball at Orlando Christian Prep.
The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Brown averaged 13.2 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 29 starts this past season, his third with the Bobcats. He shot 47.1 percent from the field, 38.8 percent from three and 82.0 percent from the line, all career highs.
Brown has six career 20-point games, scoring 22 twice last season. He posted a career-high 28 points as a freshman in the MAC Quarterfinals against Ball State, going 10-of-16 from the field and 5-of-10 from 3 to lead Ohio to a 90-70 win.
Brown scored 10.3 points per game in 2022-23 and was a MAC All-Freshman Team selection. He averaged 9.0 PPG as a sophomore before his year was cut short after nine games due to a season-ending injury.

Brown entered the transfer portal on April 9 with do not contact tag. The Gators had been considered the team since then, with On3’s Jamie Shaw submitting an RPM pick for Brown to UF last Thursday.

Brown joins Florida’s 2025 class
Brown is the fourth member of Florida’s 2025 class and the second player from the portal. UF signed Princeton junior point guard Xaivian Lee, a top-50 transfer, on Monday along with top-25 national recruit CJ Ingram. The Gators’ other addition from the high school ranks, top-50 overall prospect and four-star guard Alex Lloyd, signed with the team in November.
With Brown, Lee and two incoming freshmen, the Gators have 11 of their scholarships accounted for at this time. They can return as many as seven players for their national championship team, although two sophomore starters — forward Alex Condon and center Rueben Chinyelu — have declared for the 2025 NBA Draft while maintaining their college eligibility.
Along with Condon and Chinyelu, three UF players have entered the transfer portal since the national championship victory: junior guard Denzel Aberdeen, junior forward Sam Alexis and sophomore guard Kajus Kublickas. Aberdeen committed to the Kentucky Wildcats on Monday and will play at Florida next season.
