Another SEC program is now two feet in for Mal Waldrep, as the University of Florida served up a scholarship offer on Wednesday afternoon.

Waldrep, a 2025 offensive lineman from Phenix City (Ala.) Central, has plenty of homework to do on the Gators but is definitely stoked about his latest Power Five opportunity.

Additional programs on Waldrep’s offer sheet include Georgia, Clemson, Auburn, Penn State, Kentucky, Florida State, Georgia Tech and Colorado.

“I know that playing for Florida means playing SEC ball. To me, that means a lot for a program to be in the SEC. I know they have a great coaching staff and great academics,” Waldrep told Gators Online.

If all goes as planned, the 6-foot-4, 280-pound offensive lineman will be journeying down to Gainesville later this year. It will mark his first up-close look at what Billy Napier’s program has to offer.

UF offensive coordinator and co-offensive line coach, Rob Sale, delivered today’s news and made a strong first impression in the process.

“I called with coach Sale,” said Waldrep. “The first thing he told me was that I had an offer from Florida. He asked how I was doing and how my summer has gone and if I’m excited for camp and this season, which I am. I am looking to get down on campus at some point this season.”

The Gators will be a legitimate contender for Waldrep

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Auburn holds the early advantage with odds approaching 34 percent. Georgia and Clemson are not far behind though, checking in with percentages of 29.6 and 25.4, respectively.

As for the Gators, where do they fit into the big picture for the Alabama native?

“I can’t wait to go see what Florida has to offer,” said Waldrep. “Right now, they are definitely in my top few schools.”

The On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, labels Waldrep as the No. 21-ranked interior offensive lineman. He is also the 401st-ranked prospect overall and 18th-ranked rising junior in Alabama.

“My strengths are that I have good bend, good feet, and I can play all positions on the offensive line,” Waldrep said.
