Alex Condon declares for 2025 NBA Draft, maintains eligibility

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — As expected, Alex Condon will test the NBA waters. The Florida Gators starting forward declared for the 2025 Draft on Wednesday while maintaining his eligibility.
After the national championship game last week, Condon told Gators Online that he would likely go through the draft process but hopes to return to the Gators for his junior season.
“I’m probably going to test the waters to see the feedback I get from different teams, but I’m still hoping to come back to college and prove myself another year,” Condon said in San Antonio.
Condon is projected as a late first-round pick by On3 (28th) and ESPN (29th) and in the second round by Bleacher Report (40th). He earned second-team All-SEC honors as a sophomore, averaging in double figures with 10.7 points and leading the team with 7.5 rebounds and 49 blocks along with 2.2 assists per game.
Florida coach Todd Golden confirmed on Saturday that Condon would test the NBA waters.
“We’ve been talking non-stop really, whether it’s during the season or this past week. I think Alex, his father and our staff are on the same page with what this next month or two are going to look like. He’s put himself in a position to be evaluated and considered for the draft and be a first-round pick. It’s our job obviously to win games, to go as far as we can, but also to put our guys in position to have great professional careers. So just like Walt and Will did last year … he’s gonna go work out for some teams. I anticipate he’ll get a combine invite,” Golden said.

“The great thing is we have such a great thing going on here at Florida and he enjoys going here so much. That’s gotta be a really, really sweet deal and a really good promise, for a lack of a better term, for him to take advantage. So, he’s in a win-win situation. And I feel like if he ends up in a position where it’s too good for him to turn down going to the draft, that’s a big win for our program. It’s proof of concept. I think we’ll be able to continue getting young men like Alex. Obviously, we hope selfishly he comes back, but we’ll see how these next couple weeks play out before we get too far down the line on that.”
Alex Condon statement
He announced his decision to enter the draft on Instagram.
“Gator Nation: Thank you for the incredible support and love you’ve shown me over the past two years. Representing the University of Florida has been an absolute honor, and I’m truly grateful to Coach Golden, Coach Hartman and the entire coaching staff for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to grow both on and off the court.
“I also have great appreciate for my teammates for pushing me every day and sharing some unforgettable moments together. Winning a national championship with this group is something I’ll always be proud of. I also want to thank my family for the support and guidance they’ve given me every step of the way.
“With that said, I’m entering my name into the 2025 NBA Draft while maintaining my college eligibility, and I’m looking forward to taking the next steps in my basketball journey.”
