Florida coach Todd Golden provided an update Tuesday night on starter Alex Condon following his team’s 81-68 win at Mississippi State. Golden was also critical of MSU forward RJ Melendez for the play that injured Condon.
He suffered a right ankle injury 30 seconds into the game and could not put any pressure on it. Condon was taken to the locker room and did not return.
Condon was trying to catch an inbounds pass when his left foot landed on Melendez, who then pulled him down with a horse collar and caused the sprain.
Golden provided a positive update on Condon after the game, but didn’t mince words about what he saw from Melendez after rewatching what happened.
“Good news is his X-ray came back clean. Looks like a low ankle sprain,” Golden said. “Thought it was a dirty play, to be honest. Looked like a dirty play on film. Disappointing. But luckily at this point, we think it’s just a low ankle sprain and I hope to have him back in a little bit.”
Florida forward Thomas Haugh stepped up with Condon out, almost recording a triple-double with 16 points, a team-high nine rebounds and a career-high eight assists.

Haugh was one of four UF players to hit at least three 3-pointers Tuesday. Starting center Reuben Chinyelu also scored 10 points and was one of five Gators in double figures.
Alex Condon named SEC Player of the Week
Condon has posted a double-double in both of Florida’s wins against No. 1 teams, tallying 17 points and 10 rebounds on Saturday at Auburn. He had 12 points and 12 rebounds in the January rout of Tennessee.
Condon earned SEC Player of the Week after both performances, becoming just the eighth Gator to earn the honor multiple times in a season and only the third frontcourt player to do so (Joakim Noah, Colin Castleton).
Condon is averaging 10.9 points and 8.9 rebounds per game in conference play.
“He’s fearless,” Golden said of Condon on Monday. “I think that’s one of the best compliments I can give for a player. A lot of times, whether it’s going up against Johni Broome, going on the road in a top environment, whatever it is, some guys might struggle with some confidence here and there. I think what I’m most proud of about our group is we go to Auburn, and we were fearless.”
