Florida forward Alex Condon has been in Los Angeles training for the NBA Draft Combine with Excel Sports Management. He was one of three Gators invited to the combine, which will be held from May 11-18 at Wintrust Arena and the Marriott Marquis in Chicago.

Condon has been working on becoming more of a perimeter player for the next level. He discussed the process so far in an interview with DraftExpress.

“Just expanding my game more, especially my perimeter shooting, being confident with my 3-pointer. I think I can shoot it; I just need to be confident in myself and shoot it,” said Condon, who is also trying to take better care of the ball. “I know I need to turn down the turnovers a little bit and try some less crazy stuff.”

Condon has received mock draft projections for both the first and second rounds. He’s pegged as a late first-round pick by On3 (28th) and ESPN (29th). Yahoo! Sports (38th), Bleacher Report (40th) and Sports Illustrated (44th) having him going in the second round.

After helping the Gators win a national championship as a sophomore, Condon declared for the NBA Draft while maintaining his college eligibility. He’s approaching the combine process with the mindset that he will not be returning to school for his junior season.

“My mindset is that I’m fully in the process now and I’m treating it like I’m gonna declare for the draft and stay in this draft,” Condon said. “So, I gotta treat it like that. I think that’s the best way to get the best results out of this combine.”

Condon earned second-team All-SEC honors last season and averaged 10.7 points. He led the Gators with 7.5 rebounds and 49 blocks along with 2.2 assists per game.

Condon scored in double figure 19 times and recorded seven double-doubles, including a career-high 27 points and 10 rebounds in Florida’s 99-94 win at No. 7 Alabama.

“I think I’m a versatile player,” Condon said. “I can rebound, block shots. Just working on my perimeter game overall. I’m in a really comfortable place where I’m shooting it, just getting used to this NBA ball and a new 3-point line that’s different in college, so I’m getting used to that. I’m really comfortable with my progress so far. I think I’m just getting better and better every day, and it’s just a confidence thing for me.

“I brought a lot of energy for the team (last season), I think being a facilitator. We had a lot of great talent in our backcourt, so getting the ball to those guys in the right spots — spots where they’re efficient in — is something I try to do a lot. A lot of back-cuts, passing and just crashing the glass. … Putting a lot of pressure on the rim and finishing inside, blocking shots, getting into on-ball coverages and guarding smaller guards, I think that translates to the next level.”
