GAIENSVILLE, Fla. — After missing his first game of the season Saturday against No. 1 Auburn, Florida starting guard Alijah Martin is expected to return to the lineup Tuesday at No. 22 Mississippi State.

Florida coach Todd Golden said Monday provided an update Monday on Martin, who missed the Auburn game with a hip pointer. He was able to practice with the No. 3 Gators on Sunday.

“I think he’ll play (at MSU),” Golden said. “He had a good day yesterday, was moving around really well. He was playing a little 3-on-3, 4-on-4 with some of our guys yesterday.

“He wanted to get back into the physical flow of it. I anticipate he’ll play, but it’s a funny little injury and a little pull here and there can bother him, but he looked really good yesterday.”

Martin is second on the team in scoring with 15.3 points per game. He was questionable against Auburn and listed as a game time decision 90 minutes prior to tip.

Golden reiterated that he thought Martin was going to play Saturday.

“To be honest, we expected to have A-Mart,” he said. “Up until an hour-ish, hour- and-a-half-ish before game time, we’re like, ‘Man, he really might not go.’ And you saw some guys really, really step up and play great.

“And last week, winning on Tuesday without Walter [Clayton] and winning on Saturday without Alijah, A lot of our younger players, guys that weren’t getting a lot of minutes, stepped up in our biggest week of the season. In in a way, I think whether it was intentional or not, it really helped our program.”

Golden added that Martin will still be on the latest SEC availability report Monday night. UPDATE: Martin has been listed as questionable.

Players are listed as probable when they are “likely to play, barring any setbacks” and questionable when “uncertain to play due to injury or condition.”

“I think he’ll be on there,” Golden said. I expect him to play (at MSU), but again, I expected him to play against Auburn and he wasn’t able to go. So, we’ll see. I think we’ll know in the next 24 hours.”
