Florida Gators starting guard Alijah Martin has been ruled out against No. 22 Mississippi State. He will miss his second straight game with a hip pointer.

Martin was once again listed as questionable on the available report Monday night. Junior guard Denzel Aberdeen will make his third consecutive start Tuesday.

Florida coach Todd Golden provided an update Monday on Martin, who was able to practice with the No. 3 Gators on Sunday.

“He had a good day,” Golden said, “was moving around really well. He was playing a little 3-on-3, 4-on-4 with some of our guys. He wanted to get back into the physical flow of it. I anticipate he’ll play, but it’s a funny little injury and a little pull here and there can bother him, but he looked really good.”

Martin is second on the team in scoring with 15.3 points per game. He suffered his hip pointer vs. Vanderbilt but returned to the game and played through the injury.

He was questionable against Auburn and listed as a game time decision 90 minutes prior to tip. Golden reiterated that he thought Martin was going to play Saturday.

“Last week, winning on Tuesday without Walter [Clayton] and winning on Saturday without Alijah, a lot of our younger players, guys that weren’t getting a lot of minutes, stepped up in our biggest week of the season. In in a way, I think whether it was intentional or not, it really helped our program. Watching Denzel kind of come into his own and play 35 minutes at the point guard position.

“Urby [Urban Klavzar] getting an extended run against Vandy. And then you go into Auburn, and to be honest, we expected to have A-Mart. Up until an hour-ish, hour- and-a-half-ish before game time, we’re like, ‘Man, he really might not go.’ And you saw some guys really, really step up and play great. I’m really proud of Urby, just the way he’s performed.”

Players are listed as probable when they are “likely to play, barring any setbacks” and questionable when “uncertain to play due to injury or condition.”
