Australian center commits to Todd Golden and the Gators
The University of Florida has netted its second commitment from the 2023 class, as Australian center Alex Condon recently pulled himself off the market in favor of the Gators. He is the second prospect in the class, joining power forward signee Thomas Haugh.
Condon, who attends NBA Global Academy Australia, made his way to Gainesville on Jan. 13 for an official visit and fielded interest from several additional Division I programs. He measures in at 6-foot-11, 230 pounds and is fairly fluid when running the floor, although he is raw from a skill standpoint.
Early on, however, Condon should be able to contribute in the open floor and on hustle plays due to his combination of size and athleticism. He boasts a significant amount of raw potential that Golden and his staff will gladly work with in Gainesville.
All in all, you can never recruit enough 7-footers with open-court ability. The Gators lack depth in the frontcourt and are adding another promising recruit in Condon.
The Gators are living up to their recruiting blueprint
During his introductory press conference, Golden said he wanted to bring along his international philosophy to Florida and see more overseas players in the SEC overall.

Locking down the Sunshine State will always be a priority; however, Golden’s decision to pursue Condon was not much of a surprise to those who are familiar with the head man’s resume.
“It’s something that at the University of San Francisco was a really, really good piece for us,” Golden said of recruiting internationally. We were able to build relationships all through Europe, Australia, and there’s a lot of talented kids over there. And transparently, not a lot of them have come to the SEC yet. You see them in different leagues across the country, some on the west coast. I think it’s an area that we can go and attack and bring some really talented kids over here.
“We’re going to go out on the trail and tirelessly look for guys that fit that mold. We are going to try to recruit the best, we’re going to go for the best players in the country. We’re going to try to build a fence around the state of Florida. Make sure that we’re involved with every great student athlete within this footprint and then we’ll go regionally, we’ll look internationally, we’ll look in the portal, we’ll do everything that we need to do. But the main key is recruiting highly motivated student athletes that are great basketball players that are passionate and prideful for being here at the University of Florida.”
