Billy Napier almost has his full roster on campus as the Gators begin the fifth phase of their offseason, Regimen. They have more than half of their 18 signees enrolled, joining the six additions from the transfer portal.

The first-year Florida coach also added nearly a dozen walk-ons to the roster.

“I think we have 17 scholarship players and 11 walk-ons. So, 28 total (additions). There’s still a handful that aren’t here,” Napier said last Thursday. “A lot of that has to do with graduations and when they finish up with their final exams, when the transcript and final letters get proofed.”

In addition to the incoming signees, the Gators have welcomed ASU wide receiver Ricky Pearsall and JUCO offensive tackle Jordan Herman to campus. Billy Napier also has a goal of 50 total walk-ons, and there’s now more than 30 on the roster.

“We’re headed towards a time where we’ll have 50 walk-ons, and we’re getting closer, right? We’re only able to add so many per year. But we’ve added the maximum amount, I think we have one more spot for this class,” Napier said. “And then we’ll obviously work on the students, the freshmen that are coming in, if there’s anybody that maybe could join the team.

“So, a lot of work left to do. I mean, I think we’re right at 121 maybe right now, so we’re still not quite where we need to be. But, you know, one group of players at the time.”

Pearsall is the sixth player Florida has landed from the transfer portal this offseason, in addition to JUCO signee Herman. Could Billy Napier add more transfers before training camp?

“I think most of the players you could acquire at this point in time would be graduate transfers, right? They would be players that were already in the portal, you know? I would say this, I think that there’s junior college players that become available and that’s another way that you can acquire a player at this point in time,” Napier said. “So, we’re gonna operate [on a] case by case basis. You know, if we find a player that we think can make our team better, we’ll pursue that player.”
