GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Gators held their annual media day press conference Sunday to mark the start of fall training camp, which opens on Monday. Florida coach Billy Napier met with reporters along with new defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong and offensive coordinator Rob Sale.
UF assistant coaches are not made available during training camp or the season, so Sunday is the only time Armstrong or Sale will talk until the spring football in 2024.

Billy Napier reflects on Year 1 lessons and previews fall camp
“One of the things I’ve been most pleased with is we have a number of leaders emerging that maybe weren’t in that place when we started in January,” Napier said. “I think there’s a different level of connection with this group. The team chemistry, the morale, the energy in the building is really fun to be a part of. We’re turning the page. Today is report today. This is phase 6, training camp. It’s going to be 21 days this year, so essentially, we’ll finish up three weeks from today.
“As a competitor, and I would say as competitors that make up our team. This is a time of the year that you really look forward to as we kind of prepare for the challenges that are ahead of us. This is a critical time of the year. You’ve got to work really hard, but you’ve got to work smart. The theme here for training camp, all parts of the organization and the team, is we have to agree to an expectation. I think that’s a big deal.”
