Bird Sherrill, Gators director of college personnel, leaving program

Bird Sherrill, the Florida Gators’ director of college personnel, is leaving the program, Gators Online confirmed. The news was first reported by Mark Long of the Associated Press.
Sherrill is taking a job with the New York Jets. He will be an area scout.
Sherrill joined the UF program prior to the 2022 season. He was credited with helping Napier and his staff scout players in the transfer portal. Three years ago, On3 named 65 rising star personnel and recruiting staffers you need to know heading into the 2022 season and Sherrill was on the list.
Per his official Florida Gators bio, “As Florida’s director of college personnel, Sherrill (focused) on the evaluation of transfer portal and JUCO players.”

A native of Mooresville, Ala., Sherrill joined the Florida staff after spending the six previous years with the Detroit Lions. Sherrill was hired by the Lions organization in 2016 and spent his first two seasons with Detroit as a scouting assistant. In his final years with the team, he was a scout. In that role with the Lions, Sherrill “assisted with several player personnel projects, including evaluation and production of scouting reports, annual draft prep and free agency acquisitions.” according to his Gators bio.
Sherrill will continue working at UF through the end of May.
He is a 2016 graduate of Alabama. Sherrill began his career as a recruiting specialist with the Crimson in 2013 as a student; he was part of Alabama’s 2014 and 2015 SEC Championship squads, along with the the 2015 National Championship team.
