Brandon Sproat earns SEC Pitcher of the week honors

Two starts and a win in Miami has earned Florida Gators junior pitcher Brandon Sproat SEC Pitcher of the Week honors.
The announcement Monday represents the first-career weekly SEC accolade of Sproat’s career. He started two games last week. Sproat tossed two shutout innings Wednesday at UNF, allowing just one hit and struck out two.
The signature performance for Sproat came on Saturday at No. 22 Miami, with the Gators behind in the series after dropping the opener on Friday night. Sproat stepped up and answered the call, firing a career-high 6.1 shutout innings to earn the victory with four hits allowed and two walks. He also tied his personal best with eight strikeouts.
Sproat’s outing helped power a comeback in the series for Florida, as the Gators rallied to take the final two games and claimed a series victory over the Hurricanes in Coral Gables, Fla.
All told, Sproat pitched 8.1 innings of scoreless ball across the two starts, scattering five hits and two walks while striking out 10 batters. Opposing teams batted just .167 against Sproat over the course of the week. Florida came away victorious in each of his two starts.
As a result of his recent streak of dominance, Sproat now owns a 2-1 record on the season with a 1.17 ERA and 21 strikeouts across 15.5 innings of work.
Following the strong weekend on the diamond, Florida returns home for a two-game midweek series vs. Jacksonville. Both games will begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, streaming live on SEC Network+.

Barco pitched 6.0 shutout innings with a career-high 12 strikeouts to earn the win against No. 24 Liberty on Friday. He allowed just one hit and one walk in the win.
