Florida Gators defensive lineman Cam Jackson could have left the program after his junior season in 2023 and given pro football a shot. Instead, he opted to return for one final go.

Jackson made it count.

This year, he started 11 games, ranked first among Florida defensive linemen with 37 total tackles and produced 2.0 sacks and 4.5 tackles for loss — excellent number for someone who typically took on two blockers each play. He was a key player on a defense that helped spark an 8-5 season.

Jackson began his college career at Memphis, but played his final two seasons with the Gators.

With Jackson’s time at Florida up, the 6-foot-6, 342-pound senior from Haynesville, La., posted a farewell note to Gator Nation on Saturday morning via X, the app formerly known as Twitter. He wrote the following:

“First and foremost, I want to give all glory to God for keeping me grounded through my college journey and my life. I am incredibly thankful for the unwavering support from my family, friends and fans who have been with me every step of the way.

To the University of Memphis, I am deeply grateful for the opportunity you gave me to grow both as a person and as a player. You helped me better understand the game, and I will always carry a piece of Memphis in me.

To the University of Florida, thank you for providing me with the incredible opportunity to compete at the highest level of college football. Being part of such a prestigious institution has been an unforgettable experience. I am beyond thankful for the academic and football staff, as well as everyone who has supported me and contributed to my growth both on and off the field. To my coaches and teammates, words cannot express how much your belief in me means. Thank you for your guidance, support and camaraderie.

With that said, I will be declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft. I am excited for the next step in this journey and the opportunities that lie ahead.

Sincerely, Cam Jackson”

The Draft Network wrote this about Jackson: “Jackson possesses several attractive traits for NFL teams, including his versatility and high motor. With further development as a pass rusher and run defender, Jackson has the potential to become a reliable starting IDL for an NFL franchise. Prospect Projection: Day 3 — Developmental Traits.”
