CB coach Will Harris leaving Florida Gators to coach at Miami

Will Harris’ stint at Florida is over. Harris, a cornerbacks coach who joined the program in December 2023 and produced solid results both on the field and the recruiting trail, is leaving the program, Gators Online and CaneSport have learned. He is headed to Miami to coach in the secondary.
Harris, 36, came to Gainesville after spending a year with the Los Angeles Chargers of the NFL as an assistant secondary coach. He quickly made an impact for coach Billy Napier’s program.
Last season, Harris’s secondary played a big role in Florida’s late-season surge and 8-5 finish. Per FloridaGators.com, “As a unit, the Florida defense finished the season ranked ninth in the nation in red zone defense (.725), 11th in sacks per game (3.0), 11th in fumbles recovered (11) and 13th in turnovers gained (25). The Gator defense improved in nearly every statistical category from 2023 to 2024, including sacks (+17), tackles for loss (+28), forced fumbles (+11), pass breakups (+12), interceptions (+11) and turnovers gained (+18).”
The secondary had to overcome numerous injuries, too. Multiple Florida starters missed playing time during the course of the season.

Harris also made a huge impact on the recruiting trail as the Gators landed three top-100 national recruits in the secondary. His haul included the following players in the 2025 class:
— CORNERBACK Ben Hanks III, Miami (Fla.) Booker T. Washington: On3 5-star recruit; No. 6 CB, No. 38 overall player in the On3 Industry Rankings. Signed, early enrollee.
— SAFETY Hylton Stubbs, Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin: No. 4 S, No. 63 overall player in the On3 Industry Rankings: Signed, early enrollee.
— SAFETY Lagonza Hayward, Lyons (Ga.) Toombs County: No. 7 S, No. 75 overall player in the On3 Industry Rankings: Signed, early enrollee.
— CORNERBACK Onis Konanbanny, Columbia (S.C.) Heathwood Hall: No. 42 CB, No. 412 overall player in the On3 Industry Rankings. Expected to sign Wednesday, summer enrollee.
For much of last season, Harris was the primary UF assistant coaching the secondary as then defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong shifted his focus to the linebackers. In January, the Gators hired Vinnie Sunseri as co-defensive coordinator/safeties coach.
