Chris Doering has critical take of Florida Gators fans

It’s hard to find someone that bleeds Orange and Blue quite like Chris Doering does. That’s what makes his recent comments about Gators fans hit hard.
Speaking with Jake Crain of the Crain and Co. Show, Doering was asked about Florida fans and their perception of new head coach Billy Napier.
“I’m a lifelong Gator fan. The son of two Florida grads. I lived in Gainesville growing up, so I feel like I can say this,” Doering said on the Crain & Company Show. “Our fanbase has become the worst. In terms of criticism and lack of patience. (Billy Napier) hasn’t even coached a game yet and his popularity has been up and down mostly because of the recruiting criticism he has gotten. That’s ultimately what cost Dan Mullen his job.”
“I don’t think people understood the disarray the program was in. The lack of elite SEC talent on that roster. I hope Florida fans understand where they are right now and how difficult the schedule is. I think if they go 8-4 with the schedule they have to face, that should be viewed as a successful season.”

Napier and his staff have taken some heat on social media. While Twitter and message boards probably represent a vocal minority and not the true sentiment of the entire fan base, Doering has clearly taken notice.
There hasn’t been much to complain about the last 48 hours. Napier and the Gators have hauled in two commitments and could add another on Saturday.
Doering’s got a touchdown!
The SEC Network analyst was born in Gainesville in 1973, as he said, to two Florida Gators alumni. He graduated from P.K. Yonge and walked on to the team in 1991. After taking a redshirt in 1991, he earned a scholarship and set records in Gainesville. His 149 career receptions are sixth-most in UF history. His 31 career touchdown catches are best in program history and was the best in SEC history until DeVonta Smith broke the record in 2020. And, of course, there’s the touchdown to beat Kentucky in 1993.
