CJ Ingram isn’t just a Florida Gators legacy. He’s an elite basketball recruit. And now, he plans to follow in his father’s footsteps in Gainesville.

Ingram, a 6-foot-6 combo guard from Orlando (Fla.) Oak Ridge, has committed to the Florida Gators. Ingram’s father, Cornelius Ingram, was an all-conference tight end for the Gators two decades ago. But often forgotten is that he also played some basketball at Florida.

CJ Ingram officially visited coach Todd Golden’s Florida program in June. Kansas, Michigan and Georgia were among the other schools he strongly considered.

He is the No. 6 shooting guard and No. 26 overall recruit nationally for On3. Ingram spoke with On3’s Joe Tipton about his commitment to the Gators (full story HERE).

“It always felt like home,” Ingram told Tipton. “The atmosphere is just different with the fans. My visit just felt almost perfect and I’m doing at home in front of friends and family. Coach Todd, Coach Taurean Green, Coach Hartmann and Coach Talley, they tell me every day what I can be in the future, how I can develop, and how I fit in the system.”

What type of player is Florida getting in Ingram?

“A two way slasher,” he told On3. “A physical guard who can guard multiple positions and play the one through three, and can defend, rebound, score or facilitate.”

Ingram played quarterback — and well — at Hawthorne (Fla.) the past few seasons and Florida also was recruiting him as a receiver. But basketball is his first love and for now that is the only sport he intends to play in college.

Cornelius Ingram, no doubt, is thrilled by Monday’s news. Here’s what he said about the chances of his son attending Florida earlier this year.

“Absolutely, you always want him to wear the orange and blue like I did,” the older Ingram told Gators Online. “But times are different. He has his own decision to make. I really believe his recruitment is about to take off during the spring and even during summer with more basketball stuff.”

Meanwhile, Golden is putting together a strong 2025 recruiting class in Gainesville. Ingram joins another 4-star prospect in combo guard Alex Lloyd. (Commitment list HERE)
