Following Friday’s commitment from wide receiver Aidan Mizell, the Gators now have the No. 13 recruiting class.

They broke into the top 15 of the 2023 Consensus Football Team Recruiting Rankings following last night’s pledge from four-star cornerback Ja’Keem Jackson. Now, they are inching closer to securing a class in the top 10.

According to the On3 Consensus, Mizell is the Gators’ highest-ranked commit as well. He is labeled as the No. 15 wide receiver and No. 93 prospect regardless of position.

Florida, which holds commitments from 14 prospects, also has the No. 5 recruiting class in the SEC. Twelve of those rising seniors reside in the Sunshine State, while blue-chip defenders T.J. Searcy and Aaron Gates hail from the state of Georgia.

The Gators’ class currently features eight offensive players and six on the defensive side of the ball.

Additional top Gators targets are expected to come off the board sooner than later as well.

On300 safety Jordan Castell is announcing on Saturday morning and Florida is trending heavily. Four-star wide receivers Andy Jean and Daquayvious Sorey are ones to monitor as well; however, Sorey is viewed as an athlete and could potentially play defense.

Then you have Ohio State cornerback commit, Dijon Johnson, who visits UF today and Miami on Saturday.

With several prospects trending up, Billy Napier’s staff has the potential to secure a top-10 class by the start of the season.

What pushed the Gators over the top for Mizell?

“It would probably just be the relationship I have with the whole coaching staff and everyone there,” Mizell said about his UF commitment. “The conversations I have with the coaching staff, a lot of it is non-football. It’s a lot more of making sure I’m OK, everything is good and if I need help.

“There is obviously the football talk, but that’s the stuff that really builds the relationship with the coaching staff.”

Proximity played a key role in Mizell’s decision to team up with the Gators as well.

“It’s just how close it is to Orlando,” Mizell said. “It’s close to a lot of things, especially family, so being able to come back if I need to. My parents can also come up for all the games, so that’s just real cool.”
