Florida freshman receiver Dallas Wilson is five months removed from making a life-changing decision that altered the course of his college career and football future.

On Dec. 19, Wilson asked for and was later granted his release from Oregon, which Gators Online first reported. He officially signed with Florida three days later.

The following week, Wilson gave his first and only interview about the flip exclusively to Gators Online. While he discussed DJ Lagway and joining forces with Florida’s WR room, Wilson did not go want to go into detail about why he parted ways with Oregon.

“It was pretty frustrating,” Wilson said. “I got through it at the end. … I’d rather not say it on here, but I have a lot going on. It’s just a lot.”

In a recent video feature, Wilson opened up about everything he had going on at the time. While it was previously reported that his grandmother had health issues, he revealed how serious the situation was.

“I was living with my grandma because my mom had already passed, so I was living with my grandma. And then her health condition had just dropped tremendously. Like, it had dropped. She was in and out of the hospital and her health was bad. They said she was going to have to be on life support and everything,” Wilson said in the interview below.

Wilson, who lost his mother in 2023, is close with his family and siblings in Tampa, Fla. Their predicament was also weighing on him.

“My sisters and brothers were going through a stage where they were almost homeless,” Wilson said. “So, I was just keeping God first and praying.”

Around the same time his family issues came to a head, Wilson said he had a falling out with Oregon. He had been committed to the Ducks since January 2023 and signed with them on Dec. 4, 2024.

“That’s when me and Oregon had fell into a disagreement almost. We weren’t seeing eye to eye, so I had looked for another home in Florida, which was already my second home,” Wilson said. “And then just talking to them, chopping it up with them and just creating that to go lay my hat over there was perfect.”

One day after being released from Oregon, Wilson officially visited Florida and spent time with the players and staff, attending a UF basketball game. He signed with the Gators shortly after his trip to Gainesville and enrolled early in late January.

Billy G[onzales] brought me in, Coach [Billy] Napier brought me in and literally the whole coaching staff from the strength and conditioning coach to the nutrition (staff) just brought me in greatly. So, just being around them, seeing what they offered me and just seeing how they treated me as family before they even knew who I was, it was just great,” Wilson said. “So, I can say it was a long journey, but it was definitely worth it.”
