Attorney for Florida Gators CB Dijon Johnson releases statement

Following his arrest late last Friday in Tampa, Fla., the attorney for Florida Gators cornerback Dijon Johnson released a statement Wednesday on his behalf. Johnson was arrested on four charges and released from jail on Sunday.
He was charged with second-degree felony for possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, third-degree felony for possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor resisting an officer without violence, misdemeanor possession of cannabis less than 20 grams.
Tim Taylor, the attorney for Johnson, sent out a press release on Wednesday. He said his client has not been formally charged since his arrest Friday night in Hillsborough County. Here is the statement from Taylor:
“We are in dialogue with the State Attorney’s Office regarding Dijon’s traffic stop last week. At this time, no formal charges have been filed. Any potential charging decision will, of course, need to be consistent with Florida law. We are eager for all the pertinent facts to come to light.”
Johnson was arrested at 11:20 p.m. on May 2 and booked two hours later. The University of Florida released a statement Tuesday regarding Johnson.
“We are aware of the situation of Dijon Johnson. We will continue to gather facts, cooperate with and monitor the legal and administrative processes.”

Johnson, a junior from Tampa, played in all 13 games at cornerback last season with five starts. He recorded 25 total tackles (16 solo), one QB hurry and two pass break-ups.

Johnson became a starter last season and played the most snaps at cornerback due to injuries. Johnson recorded 25 tackles (16 solo), a TFL, one QB hurry and two pass breakups. He made his first career start vs. UGA and started the final four games.
He got the nod against LSU, recording a career high four tackles and his only TFL of the season. He made his second consecutive start at corner against Ole Miss and recorded three tackles (two solo) a pass break-up and a QB hurry in the win.
Johnson, a junior from Tampa, almost made his first career interception vs. Ole Miss as well. He recorded 25 tackles (16 solo), a TFL, one QB hurry and two pass breakups in 13 games played.
Johnson returned from offseason shoulder surgery during spring camp but was limited. He’ll compete this fall with Cormani McClain for the starting cornerback job opposite Devin Moore.
