Florida QB DJ Lagway returns to practice
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida Gators starting quarterback DJ Lagway returned to the practice field on Wednesday. He missed the first two practices this week with a hamstring injury he suffered against Georgia.
UF coach Billy Napier revealed Monday that Lagway had not been ruled out for the Texas game and provided an update on his status following Wednesday’s practice.
“It’s been great for DJ to be able to practice,” Napier said. “He’s trying. He’s a competitor. When you think about it, he’s going to back to his home state, he wants to try to find a pathway to make this work. Obviously, it’s touch and go. Look, the guy’s giving it his best shot. We’ll see where we’ll at the end of the week.”
Lagway, a true freshman, was listed as questionable Wednesday night on Florida’s initial injury report for the Texas game.

If he’s unable to play at the No. 5 Longhorns, redshirt freshman Aidan Warner would make his first career start Saturday. Warner, a preferred walk-on transfer from Yale, replaced Lagway against Georgia and led the offense on two scoring drives, finishing with 66 yards and an interception on 7 of 22 passing.
Through eight games, Lagway has completed 60.9% of his pass attempts (56 of 92) for 1,071 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions. He had five completions of 40-plus yards in each of his first two starts, and no other UF quarterback has accomplished that feat in a game in the last 20 years.
Lagway was part of a two-quarterback system with Graham Mertz before his season-ending injury at Tennessee. Lagway led the Gators to a 48-20 win over Kentucky with 305 total yards in his first SEC start. He set the single-game school record for most passing yards (456) by a Florida true freshman quarterback in the 45-7 win over Samford.
