Florida sophomore quarterback DJ Lagway is “on schedule” in his recovery from a shoulder injury that sidelined him this spring, Gators coach Billy Napier said Tuesday at SEC Spring Meetings. Napier revealed that Lagway is now throwing three days a week.

Lagway had one of his three weekly throwing sessions Tuesday at UF and Napier said he’s making 210 passes per week, not counting warmups.

“He’s doing good, three days a week, making really good progress,” said Napier, who added that Lagway’s workload is normal and not lighter.

“We’re doing exactly what we would do this time of year that we’ve done in the past. So, he’s on schedule.”

Lagway was limited throughout spring camp and did not throw any passes in practice, handing the ball off five times in the Orange & Blue Game. Gators Online first reported in late April that Lagway resumed throwing and provided the latest on his progress last Wednesday.

Napier said Lagway has been working with UF coaches the past two weeks but stopped short of saying his starting quarterback is 100% when asked.

“I don’t know if we put a percentage on it right now, but he’s where he needs to be to continue to progress,” Napier said.

Lagway, a Freshman All-American, went 6-0 last season in the games he started and finished. He threw for 1,915 yards and 12 touchdowns with nine interceptions and completed 60.0% of his passes in 12 games played.

Lagway made his first career start in Week 2 and set a UF true freshman record with 456 passing yards (ninth all-time in school history). He also ranked No. 2 nationally in deep balls with a PFF passing depth grade of 95.8.

“To be honest, he was never fully healthy (in 2024),” Deiric Jackson, CEO & Owner of Legacy Sports Advisors, said of Lagway last week. “There were a bunch of things he fought through just to be able to perform at the level he did. A lot of those little things had adverse effects while he was trying to throw without pain. It’s fixed. He’s healthy now; he’s going to have his full arsenal. People have not seen his full arsenal. Not even close. I’m looking forward to seeing it this upcoming season.”
