Emory Jones reportedly informs Florida he plans to transfer
Emory Jones plans to transfer less than a week into Florida’s spring football camp.
The Gators’ starting quarterback from a year ago has informed the new coaching staff he intends to enter the portal Friday, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Jones told Thamel back in December that he would transfer after the season, but said Tuesday that new coach Billy Napier and analyst Ryan O’Hara recruited him back.
“I honestly went in telling them I didn’t want to be here,” Jones said after the first day of spring practice. “They basically just told me they watched the film, went over everything and said that I am very talented, and they can do a lot to change how I played in the past.
“And I watched film on their quarterback last year (Louisiana’s Levi Lewis). He’s very talented, and he did a lot of great things. That definitely sold me.”
Jones added that he was committed to staying for the fall.
“I mean, I’m here. I’m committed,” Jones said. “I’ve been working my butt off since the offseason. Trying to get closer to a lot of guys around here and for this team.”

Emory Jones reverses course
Now he will be looking for a new team.
Jones started 12 of Florida’s 13 contests with a 6-6 record, throwing for 2,734 yards (210.3 YPG) and 19 touchdowns while leading the team in rushing with 759 yards and four scores on 143 carries.
Jones was turnover-prone all season, with multiple picks in four games and a league-worst 13 interceptions on the year. He was also benched against LSU and FSU for Anthony Richardson, the projected starter in 2022.
Jones is on track to graduate in April before transferring. His departure will leave the Gators with five scholarships in Richardson, Ohio State transfer Jack Miller, redshirt freshmen Carlos Del Rio-Wilson and Jalen Kitna and incoming freshman Max Brown.
