Lagway says: “I’m just ready to get (to Gainesville) and compete right away and just overall learn and grow from everybody I encounter. I’m excited with what Coach (Billy) Napier is building and I just can’t wait to be apart of it. I know right now, there are some people not believing in it. But I whole-heartedly believe in what he’s doing. Really, it’s just the way they’ve had different kinds of quarterbacks and the way they’ve used them and made the system fit their quarterbacks. I just can’t wait to get in there and when I get in there to see how they’re going to make it fit me.”
Stats: Lagway passed 4,631 yards, 58 touchdowns and 6 interceptions while completing 72.1 percent of his attempts in 2023. He added 975 rushing yards.
Notable: Lagway is an Under Armour All-American. … His father, Derek Lagway, played running back for Baylor.

What the Gators are getting in DJ Lagway
Quoteworthy I: “Lagway has long been considered one of the more physically gifted quarterbacks in the 2024 cycle. His ability to stress defenses with his arm and legs makes him a five-star and a high upside prospect at the position.” — On3 Dir. of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power

Quoteworthy II: “The kid is a tremendous human being. He’s a big deal (at the school). The beauty with a kid like him is, he could easily be a kid that shows up for the athletic period, goes home, doesn’t pay for school lunches and does what he wants to. That’s not who he is.” — Willis High coach Trent Miller.
Quoteworthy III: “He can run, he can jump, he can throw, he can win the game, but it’s the little things inside of how his work ethic is and how he works on things,” Tillman said. “He may not have as good of a grasp on something, but he gets it. And he finds a way to get it maybe the next day or maybe the next hour. He just tries to find a way to understand what it is he really wants to know.” J.P. Tillman, Lagway’s private coach
