Florida's Alex Condon returns from injury, suffers another vs. UGA

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida forward Alex Condon played for the first time in four games against Georgia. It was his first action since his low ankle sprain two weeks prior at Mississippi State.
Condon played 21 minutes off the bench and finished with nine points, three rebounds, a block and a steal on 1-for-7 shooting and 0-for-3 from downtown in the 88-83 loss at UGA.
“It was good to get back out there. Coach said I was gonna play like 10 or 20 minutes,” Condon said. “I think a little bit (rusty). Just some small stuff, opening up on pick and rolls, being available in the short rolls is something I can do a little bit better going forward. But I think that’s gonna come, playing with more confidence just picking up where I left off.”
Condon would have played more minutes against the Bulldogs if not for the injury he sustained during the game. He took an elbow to the face and had to go back to the locker room.
Condon explained what happened on the play.
“I kind of just, like, walled up defensively. And I saw it was definitely an accident, but just an elbow to the mouth. It wasn’t even, like, a huge elbow or anything. It was just, like, perfect angle,” Condon said. “Just leaning, I could feel (teeth) in my tongue. They were just back in my mouth. It was pretty gross.
“I got two teeth pushed back into my mouth and then got pushed back in the training room there with Jon [Michelini]. He pushed him back in, put on the mouth guard and we went back out. … I could barely speak when I came back into the game. I was like swallowing blood and stuff as well.”
Condon added that his teeth got straightened out Thursday and he will need a root canal. It’s the second time this has happened to him in as many years, which is why he was so upset in the moment.

“I was just more frustrated because I had done the same thing last year (against Alabama),” Condon said. “So, I knew exactly what the process was. It’s pretty tedious. It wasn’t fun waking up early yesterday morning and getting them pushed back into the right place. And I know the root canal is not gonna be great either.”
“They put a little metal wire (in his mouth), just so it kind of acts like a little mouth guard. So, if I get hit again, all four are coming out. I’ve got to get two root canals.”
After not learning his lesson the first time, Condon will now wear a mouthguard moving forward.
“I’m going to wear it now. My mom started crying,” Condon said. “I guess I didn’t learn, but I’m definitely gonna wear it now.”
“I think it’s going to be like a pretty thin one so I can still speak, but it might be a thicker one so I can protect my teeth.”
