GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida baseball team completed one of its best seasons with 50 wins and a berth into the College World Series. At the same time, the spring transfer portal window is open and the staff is having to contend with that.

The Gators have had five players enter the transfer portal as of June 13. The latest coming from right-handed pitcher, Anthony Ursitti. Ursitti is the fourth pitcher and third in the last two days to enter the transfer portal.

The Gators have 12 pitchers signed for the 2023 signing class, Gators Online detailed them here.

More on the Gators

Lastres came to Florida as a rare power bat behind the plate. Catchers with his type of raw power don’t typically make it to campus. He played sparingly as a freshman but homered in his first at-bat for the team. Heading into this season, Lastres was expected to get the backup job to BT Riopelle. However, freshman Luke Heyman — another power bat behind the plate — beat out Lastres for the job. Heyman has played in 49 games (45 starts) and is hitting .327 with 11 home runs and 36 RBI. Lastres had just 16 at-bats in 11 games (three starts).

Catcher Salvy Alvarez spent the year redshirting and served mostly as a bullpen catcher for the team in 2023.

Carsten Finnvold will always be remembered for his pitching outing against Oklahoma in the 2022 Gainesville Regional. The crafty lefty threw nine innings of relief a pitched Florida to a game seven against the Sooners. Finnvold threw just once this season. He allowed four runs on three hits against Miami in March.

The 6’8″ Yoel Tejeda made eight appearances, including six starts as a freshman. He threw mostly during midweek games and posted a 5.56 ERA in 22.2 innings. Tejada’s last outing came on the road against Texas A&M. He allowed five hits, and three runs (all earned) in just one inning of work.

Anthony Ursitti looked to be a promising arm in the Florida bullpen during the 2023 season. Ursitti made 15 appearances including one start as a true freshman. He finished with a 5.06 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 21 1/3 innings of work. With a fastball that ran up to 95-96 but could be erratic, Ursitti needed to show more command to find a bigger role as a sophomore. That never materialized. He made just three appearances on the year, with his last coming at Texas A&M, allowing two hits, three earned runs and a walk without recording an out.
