Florida basketball lands Belmont transfer guard Will Richard
Todd Golden and the Florida Gators received some great news Saturday, as Belmont transfer Will Richard elected to join the Gators via the transfer portal.
As a freshman at Belmont, Richard averaged 12.1 points, six rebounds and 1.8 assists. Before committing and signing with Belmont, Richard played his high school ball at Woodward Academy in Atlanta, Georgia.
Richard is the first basketball commit in the Todd Golden era. Florida continues to hunt for more transfer portal and high school prospects to bolster their roster for the 2022-23 season.
The 6-foot-5, 195-pound guard will have plenty of eligibility remaining, as he only played one season at Belmont.
The Belmont transfer took a visit to Florida earlier this week and decided to commit on Saturday.
Richard entered the transfer portal on March 22.
According to Stadium’s Jeff Goodman, Richard heard from including Georgia Tech, Arkansas, Wake Forest, Virginia, Tennessee, Clemson, Ohio State, and West Virginia shortly after entering his name in the transfer portal.

Richard was one of the best available guards in the portal, and will be an instant impact player for Florida next season.
The Gators need guards who can handle the ball, and Richard checks off that box. Richard is also a productive scorer, shooting 46.8% from the field during his freshman season.
In Richard’s final game as a Belmont Bear, Richard posted 22 points, shooting 7-13 from the field including 3-6 from behind the arc. On top of his scoring efforts, he added eight rebounds and three assists in the first round NIT loss to Vanderbilt.
Last season, Richard was placed on the Ohio Valley Conference All-Newcomer Team.
