For much of the summer, the Gators had been ranked No. 3 in the 2024 Industry Ranking Football Team Recruiting Rankings. This came after Billy Napier’s staff landed 10 commitments in June and then four during the month of July.

However, Florida is not the only program making a splash on the recruiting front. June is now arguably the most important month in recruiting and the results all across the country prove that. Don’t get it twisted though: Plenty of high-profile announcements have taken place in July and August as well, including today when No. 1-ranked EDGE Colin Simmons announced for Texas.

With that said, team rankings are fluid and will fluctuate plenty between now and December.

As of today, the Gators have the No. 4-ranked recruiting class for the 2024 cycle.

Alabama was already creeping up on the No. 3 spot to begin with, but Wednesday’s pledge from safety Red Morgan was enough for the Crimson Tide to overtake Florida in the rankings.

Thankfully for the Gators though, they only dropped one spot and remain in the hunt for a handful of highly-regarded prospects. Those include No. 1 wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland teammates LJ McCray and Zay Mincey and IMG Academy offensive lineman Jordan Seaton.

This is an impressive recruiting haul for the Gators that features 21 prospects. Fifteen of those rising seniors are equipped with at least four stars as well. It’s a group certainly well deserving of a top-five ranking nationally.

Multiple five-star prospects lead the way for Florida

The highest-ranked prospects in the class are Lone Star State natives Xavier Filsaime and DJ Lagway. Both rising seniors are five-star prospects in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking.

Filsaime, an elite defensive back from McKinney (Texas) High, is one of several Gators commits who have shut down their recruitment.

The Orlando native was offered at the start of the year and announced his commitment on April 13. That was the same day as the Orange and Blue Game. He will bring an instinctive style to the defense that should feature plenty of pad-popping hits.

With Lagway, a product of Willis (Texas) High, there is no drama surrounding his recruitment either.

The All-American signal caller is the face of UF’s class and plays a major role in recruiting. He pulled himself off the market last December and plans to play baseball for the Gators as well.

DJ Lagway is taking a business approach to recruiting

“It depends on the type of relationship I have with that person or not. Some people like that, to be on them about it but some people don’t. You have to figure out the person and the player and find out how they want to be communicated with,” Lagway previously said on the Gators Online Show when asked about his recruiting approach.

“I just really want to build a bond even if they didn’t come to Florida, and I wish that they did. But even if they didn’t, you still have that relationship with them. Because you never know, with the transfer portal, they could maybe end up right back at square one and choose Florida. I just want to build that relationship with those guys and get on a personal level so they can trust me and trust my word.

“I’m really excited about what the future holds. I definitely wanted to be part of what coach Napier is about to build and where this program is heading. I’m just thankful and honored to be a part of it.

“I’m ready to get down to Gainesville and get to work right away. Just come in and try to compete for a starting job, be a day-one leader and lead my teammates to success on and off the field.”
