Florida Gators basketball to face Wake Forest in first ACC/SEC Challenge
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The first-ever ACC/SEC Challenge for basketball begins this upcoming season and we now know who the Florida Gators will face. It will be the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
Florida men’s basketball will visit Wake Forest in the inaugural ACC/SEC Challenge on Wednesday, Nov. 29, at 7:15 p.m. Television network designation will be announced at a later date.
Florida will play an ACC-heavy nonconference slate with a contest vs. Virginia in Charlotte and a home meeting in the annual rivalry series with Florida State also on slated.
The Gators hold an all-time 7-5 record vs. Wake Forest, dating back to 1936. The teams last met on Dec. 20, 2014, a 63-50 Florida win in the Orange Bowl Classic in Sunrise, Fla. UF last visited Wake under Lon Kruger, an 81-70 victory on Dec. 3, 1994.

The 2023-24 Florida Gators basketball team will look very different than it did the year prior. Florida has added one of the best transfer classes in the country with six players from the portal, along with a pair of high school recruits in the 2023 class.
“Obviously, I’m more confident now going into next year with this group we’ve been able to assemble,” he said. “I feel like we’re balanced. I feel like we have good depth and most importantly, we have pieces that mesh well together. We didn’t just go out and say, ‘Alright, we’ll get talent, talent, talent and try to figure it out.’

“I feel like we did a good job of balancing our frontcourt, we balanced our backcourt. We have shooters, we have playmakers, we have defenders, rebounders, we have guys that will play well together, which I think is the most important thing.”
Florida will host Arkansas, Auburn, LSU, and Mississippi State this season. They will travel for games at Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas A&M. This will mark the final season of the current scheduling format with Oklahoma and Texas set to join the SEC for the 2024-25 season.
The Gators will also have non-conference games against Florida State, participate in the NIT Preseason Tip-off, and square off against Michigan in the Jumpman Classic in Charlotte, North Carolina.
