GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Gators football team started the second phase of their offseason this week. It’s called the “Identity” program.

UF coach Billy Napier said the first phase of workouts, aka Foundation, would be completed last week.

“We’ll change gears,” Napier said. “So excited to get into ‘Identity,’ start introducing some football, start getting into kind of teaching our values and some of those things. It’s been a good month. Our guys hit the ground running.

“We benefited from the early bowls, so they got a natural break there, and then they came back. They were hungry to get back to work.”

The Gators welcomed 24 mid-year enrollees in January, including 19 signees from the high school ranks and five transfers via the winter portal window.

Those newcomers started Florida’s offseason workout program last month under director of football strength and conditioning Tyler Miles and his staff.

“A good rookie group. I think that we got the right mix here, veteran example, and rookies that are deciding to be here. So, it’s a big, long, fast group, and seem to be getting along pretty good and working the right way,” Napier said.

“I think we did a good job evaluating and recruiting this cycle, and that’s been confirmed by this group of rookies that has been here for about four weeks now. So, we’ve been very pleased.”

The Gators will go through the Identity program this month before the third phase of their offseason: Spring ball. The team’s first practice is scheduled for March 6.

Napier previously called phase two of workouts the most difficult and challenging thing the players will do the entire year from a mental and physical toughness standpoint.

“What I would describe it as is designed difficulty,” Napier said. “We’re trying to present adversity to the players in a lot of different forms. We know that growth comes from struggle. We want to introduce adversity. Designed difficulty. That’s what we do.”

The Gators will play the 2025 Orange & Blue Game, presented by Florida Victorious, inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on Saturday, April 12 at 1 p.m.
