GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida Gators catcher/designated hitter Brody Donay was named the SEC Player of the Week on Monday following his performance in the season-opening sweep over Air Force.

Donay earns his first-career SEC honor after homering and posting multiple hits in all three games of Florida’s sweep of Air Force.

Donay scored Florida’s first run of the season Friday with his solo homer in the bottom of the third. It traveled 406 feet with a 105.9 MPH exit velocity.

“I didn’t think anybody was going to get the ball out of there tonight,” Kevin O’Sullivan said due to the wind. “That ball was crushed.”

Donay homered again and finished with three hits in Game 2, then hit his third homer Saturday’s doubleheader to break a scoreless tie in the fourth.

All three of his home runs traveled well over 400 feet, and he went 7-for-10 in the series backed by a .700/.750/1.800 slash line.

“What can you say about Brody Donay? He had a terrific weekend,” O’Sullivan said Saturday.

Through three games, Donay has 18 total bases, two doubles, six runs, five RBI, two walks and one steal. He finished a triple shy of the cycle in the opener and was intentionally walked in his final at bat of the series finale. Serving as Florida’s designated hitter in the first and final contests, Donay caught all nine innings of game two.

Entering the second week of the 2025 season, Donay currently leads the SEC in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage and total bases. He is tied for first in the conference in home runs with Texas A&M’s Jace Laviolette.

As a sophomore last year, Donay finished with 14 homers in 167 at bats, a number that averaged to a dinger every 12 at bats. His first season as a Gator was highlighted by a two-homer, five-RBI showing in the College World Series win over Kentucky.
