Gators DT Lamar Goods will enter NCAA transfer portal
Florida has suffered its first attrition on the defensive side of the ball in spring camp, as Lamar Goods announced he will be transferring from the football program.
Goods, a redshirt sophomore defensive tackle from Oakdale, Conn., posted on his Instagram account Friday that he intends to enter his name into the NCAA transfer portal.
“I wanna start by thanking everyone at the University of Florida and that i appreciate and care for all that you have done for me,” Lamar Goods wrote. “But after long and hard talks with my family I have decided to enter my name in the transfer portal. I am excited to see where this next chapter in my life takes my academic and football career but will always be proud that I was a gator thank you GATOR NATION.”
Goods appeared in two games last season and recorded a tackle after redshirting in 2020. He’s the second Florida player to enter the transfer portal this spring, joining former starting quarterback Emory Jones.
The departure of Goods leaves the Gators with six scholarship D-tackles in Gervon Dexter, Jalen Lee, Jaelin Humphries, Chris Thomas Jr., Desmond Watson and early enrollee Chris McClellan.

Another 2022 signee, four-star DT Jamari Lyons, will enroll this summer. Griffin McDowell started the spring at defensive tackle but has since moved to tight end to provide depth at the position.
The Gators entered spring camp with 77 scholarship players, including transfers and early enrollees, with 15 more signees coming this summer. However, UF coach Billy Napier said last week the team could have more than 10 open roster spots once attrition hits this spring.
UF is now at 74 scholarships with Goods and Jones transferring and tight end Gage Wilcox suffering a career-ending injury. Several more current players are expected to transfer elsewhere, and Napier plans to be “very aggressive” in the portal after camp.
“We’re approaching double digits, if that makes sense,” said Napier, who will be able to counter the departures of Goods, Jones and others with additions from the portal. “I think it’s fortunate that we have that opportunity, right? It’s something I’m very thankful for. Can’t imagine not having that opportunity at this point. So, that window of time is coming. We anticipate doing a lot of business and we’re looking forward to it.”
