After taking an official visit late in the season and then returning to Gainesville in January to shadow current players, cornerback Onis Konanbanny has now flipped his commitment to the Florida Gators.

The 3-star prospect from Columbia (S.C.) Heathwood Hall Episcopal School had been committed to Tennessee since Aug. 23.

The Gators were not mentioned with Konanbanny for much of the cycle but did offer in 2023 when Corey Raymond was still on the staff. That first trip to Gainesville, however, did not take place until November, but heavy buzz started to surface during the morning of his final day on campus.

From there, Konanbanny decided not to sign in December and remained in heavy communication with the Gators. That led to secondary coach Will Harris paying him a visit during the first day of the contact period and then convincing him to take one last trip to the Swamp on Jan. 17, which sealed the deal.

Among those who also impacted Konanbanny’s recruitment were Billy Napier and assistant secondary coach Beyah Rasool. Harris, however, is the one who deserves most of the credit for completing the flip.

“The highlight was coming to the building, the first time here, and feeling like I’m needed and wanted here,” Konanbanny said after his visit. “The game atmosphere, it was crazy and it probably gets crazier at night too. I like how the team played. They played with resilience, never gave up and came out on top.

“The time around the staff was wonderful too. It was cool; it was great. Coach Napier has really done a good job bringing in the right people. It’s the right people, the right staff and the right people with great hearts. He’s going to bring in the right players too. Also, not just great players, but great human beings and that’s how the program is going to keep going up.”

Onis Konanbanny, 6-foot-0.5, 175 pounds, is the No. 42-ranked cornerback and No. 412-ranked prospect overall in the On3 Industry Ranking. He joins a strong defensive back class featuring 5-star cornerback Ben Hanks Jr. and 4-star safeties Hylton Stubbs and Lagonza Hayward.
