Florida Gators further solidify top-5 ranking with latest commitment

The Florida Gators solidified their spot in the top five of the On3 recruiting team rankings with the Thursday night commitment of 4-star safety Xavier Filsaime.
Florida was at No. 4 nationally before the commitment and still holds that spot.
However, the Gators have inched closer to No. 3 Ohio State in the rankings. The Buckeyes have a team score of 95.501 with 10 commitments; Florida is at 94.576 with only seven verbals.
The Gators are well ahead of No. 5 Michigan.
Florida now is No. 3 among SEC programs, trailing only Georgia (No. 1 nationally) and Alabama (No. 2). The Gators class has an average player rating of 93.03. That’s actually ahead of Georgia (92.08) at this time.
Filsaime, an All-American at McKinney (Texas) High, is the No. 2 safety and No. 29 overall recruit nationally according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s No. 7 among all players in the state of Texas.

The Gators are making big strides in the state of Texas
For Billy Napier and Co., he is ranked second highest among Florida verbals. Quarterback DJ Lagway of Willis (Texas) is the highest-ranked player in the class with a No. 24 national rankings. Additionally, Lagway is No. 4 in Texas.
Filsaime, listed at 5-foot-11.5, 180 pounds, returned to Gainesville, Fla., on Thursday for the Orange and Blue Game at The Swamp after previously visiting the Gators on March 10. He also considered schools such as Georgia, LSU, Oregon and Southern California.
Florida now has four top-100 recruits committed for 2024. The other two are 4-star linebacker Myles Graham of College Park (Ga.) Woodward Academy (No. 45) and 4-star linebacker Adarius Hayes of Largo (Fla.) at No. 61.
Of Florida’s seven verbals, six hold 4-star ratings.
