Gators’ perfect week

The Gators are coming off of a perfect 4-0 week all on the road. Florida traveled to Tallahassee a week ago to kick off the season series with Florida State.

Florida used a five-run eighth inning to come from behind and top Florida State by a score of 9-5 at Dick Howser Stadium. Jac Caglianone (4-for-5) led the Gators at the plate with a team-high three RBI. Lefty Philip Abner was stellar for the Orange & Blue on the mound, shutting out FSU over 2 1/3 frames of relief.

“This was a really good crowd tonight. I think that’s maybe part of the issue that we got off to a slow start. But, it’s a nine-inning ballgame and we hung in there,” Kevin O’Sullivan said after the game. “Really pleased with how we were able to handle the crowd. Obviously, we weren’t very sharp in the first three, but we overcame it and came from behind on the road against a good Florida State team. The guys should feel good about themselves going into the weekend.”

Florida then traveled to Oxford, Mississippi to take on the defending National Champion Ole Miss Rebels. The series opener was postponed to Saturday due to weather but that didn’t slow down the Gators’ bats. Florida swept the Rebels by scores of 9-7, 12-8, and 10-4. The Gators’ perfect week watched them score 37 runs across four games.

The Gators will host the Auburn Tigers this weekend at Condron Family Ballpark. Florida’s starting pitching, which had a tough weekend in Oxford, will look to bounce back.
