Florida Gators give feast, new J's to Orange team, beans & franks to Blue
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida’s spring football game may not have been an official contest, but they kept score for a reason. The winning team was rewarded with a feast to eat and new J’s for their feet.
This year it was the Orange team with a 10-7 victory over the Blue squad. The players were served steak, crab legs, shrimp, mac-n-cheese, asparagus, potatoes, desserts and more.
The winners also received new pair of Air Jordan IV shoes.
“I’m eating good over here, man. Orange team for the win,” said running back Montrell Johnson Jr., who caught two passes for 51 yards on the final drive of the game to set up the 46-yard game-winning field by Trey Smack.
“This is how the orange team gets to eat,” added wide receiver Kahleil Jackson, who caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Graham Mertz late in the first half. “We get to celebrate like this. (Not) the Blue team (shakes head).”
The meal for the losing team? Franks and beans. While wide receiver Thai Chiaokhiao-Bowman embraced having a hot dog, which he called a glizzy, defensive tackle Caleb Banks took offense to the eating utensils for the Blue team.
“Sporks?! We didn’t lose that bad,” said Banks, who sacked Mertz on the first play of the game.
Backup plan for Gators DL Tyreak Sapp
Florida coach Billy Napier held a spring game feast for the winning players when he was at Louisiana and has continued that tradition at UF. Defensive lineman Tyreak Sapp was on the right side of the 34-0 score in 2022.

“I was on the blue team last year, so we won and we got to eat steak and lobster and the other team didn’t. So now I’m on the other side of the spectrum. It is what it is. We had fun,” Sapp said.
“You’ve got to fight to win. You’ve got to try to win the game if you want to eat great. Or do you want to eat those beanie wienies?”
With that being said, Sapp added he was going to pass on the losing meal and get McDonald’s instead. Here was his order:
“20-piece McNuggets, two McDoubles with no pickles and Big Mac sauce, a Hi-C orange and then a snack sized Oreo McFlurry,” Sapp said. “Also Barbeque sauce and Sweet ‘N Sour sauce.”
