An insane stat for Halter

The Gators’ second baseman throws righty but hits left-handed. It’s just something that he picked up on when he was a young baseball player growing up in Jacksonville.

Typically, left-handed hitters have a hard time hitting against left-handed pitchers. For one, there are more right-handed pitchers in baseball, so you see them more. Second, that means most breaking pitches come into a left-handed batter, while that’s the opposite for a right-handed batter. The opposite for a left-on-left matchup. Without boring you too much with the finer points, lefties typically have a tough time hitting left-handed pitching.

All of that to say that it doesn’t mean anything to Halter. He’s hitting an astounding .615 (8-13) against left-handed pitching this season.
