Gators land commitment from UMass EDGE Kofi Asare
Billy Napier and the Florida Gators have reeled in another transfer portal player, as UMass EDGE Kofi Asare announced his commitment on Sunday.
Asare, 6-foot-5, 235 pounds, had a strong visit with the Gators on Saturday and found no reason to stay on the market any longer, resulting in today’s commitment.
As a redshirt sophomore in 2024, Asare recorded 30 tackles, three sacks, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He earned additional offers from Missouri, Washington State, Virginia, Iowa State, Mississippi State, Michigan State, South Florida and Georgia State.
“They have a lot of good people. I met some of the strength staff, some in player development, like, life after college and how they help you with that stuff,” Asare said of the Gators after his official visit.
“Florida has a lot more compared to what I’ve been seeing. Obviously, they are SEC, so the facilities are just crazy. Compared to the other schools I have visited, it was just mind boggling. It was crazy being out here. The weather was nice too.”
If all goes as planned, Asare will be taking on the JACK role under outside linebackers coach Mike Peterson. One player the Gators are comparing his role to is George Gumbs Jr., who made a strong impact during his first year after transferring in from a smaller school like Asare.
There will be some slight adjustments at Florida, but Peterson envisions Asare flourishing altogether.

“They said I got all the tools on the field already; they just want to get me bigger and stronger so I can dominate with the tools I already have,” said Asare. “The role is basically a lot of the stuff I already have done. If there was a little bit of a new element, he said that position requires me to drop (in coverage) a little bit. It’s nothing they don’t believe I can’t do.”
With Asare on board, the Florida Gators now hold commitments from four transfers. The other three are Charlotte quarterback Deshawn Purdie, UCLA wide receiver J.Michael Sturdivant and Michigan punter Tommy Doman.
