Florida moves into top 2 of the new AP poll

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Gators moved up to No. 2 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 Poll on Monday after extending their winning streak to four games.
UF beat Mississippi State 81-68 last Tuesday and defeated South Carolina 88-67 on Saturday. Alex Condon missed both games and Alijah Martin was out at MSU.
The Gators jumped Alabama, which lost 94-85 at home against top-ranked Auburn, and still have the best win in the country with their 90-81 road victory vs. the No. 1 Tigers.
Florida coach Todd Golden said after Saturday’s game that he expected his team to be ranked second in the country.
“Auburn got a big win at Alabama,” he mentioned. “So, I would say with the polls coming out on Monday, I would imagine we should be No. 2 in the country. With Alabama sliding down a spot.
“Duke beat Stanford, so we’ll see what that looks like. But the goal is for us to be the best team in America. That’s our goal. I don’t know if we’ll get there, but we’ll continue to work for it.”
The Florida Gators (22-3, 9-3 SEC) have another home game Tuesday against Oklahoma. Tip is at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN 2.
