GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Gators will play the underdog role when they meet the Georgia Bulldogs this Saturday in Jacksonville. The No. 1 team in the country opened as a  17-point favorite over Florida, according to lines released by FanDuel. The over/under is set at 50.5.

The lines in this game have moved quite a bit. Last week, Florida was a 23.5-point underdog on Vegas Insider. That was before it was announced that Brock Bowers would have surgery and won’t be able to play against Florida this week. Now, Bet MGM has Georgia as a 20.5-point favorite and Draft Kings has set the line at 14.5.

Not having Bowers will be significant for the Georgia offense. Bowers has recorded 41 catches for 567 yards and four touchdowns, so his absence would be significant. Last season against the Gators, Bowers caught five passes for 154 yards and a touchdown against the Gators.

Georgia has won 40 of its last 41 games dating back to the 2020 season. They’re undefeated this year and just beginning to hit their stride as key offensive contributors like running back Kendall Milton and receiver Ladd McConkey get healthy again.

The Gators have won their last two games and are coming off a thrilling fourth-quarter comeback win over the South Carolina Gamecocks. Florida has just won once (2020) in the last six meetings between the two schools. The Bulldogs come into the game on a 24-game winning streak and ranked No. 1 in the country.

The Gators have never beaten the AP No. 1 team while unranked.

Florida Gators vs Georgia Bulldogs history

The rivalry runs deep, so deep that the two universities can’t even agree on how many times they have played. Florida claims that this will be the 101st meeting between the two schools, while Georgia claims a win in 1904 against Florida Agricultural College in Lake City as its first win in the series. Florida doesn’t include this win because it was before the modern University of Florida was established by the Buckman Act in 1905.

Series Notes:

  • Georgia leads the series, 54-44-2, and owns a 48-41-1 advantage in Jacksonville
  • The Gators are 22-11 vs. Georgia dating back to 1990, with the last win coming in the form of a 44-28 victory in 2020
  • Georgia has eclipsed 500 yards of offense vs. Florida two times in the 100-game history of the rivalry (1976, 2022)
  • Florida has four 500-yard games against Georgia since 1995 (1995, 1996, 2001, 2020)
