GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Gators are back in Omaha for the College World Series. It’s the thirteenth time the Gators have appeared in Omaha and the eighth trip for manager Kevin O’Sullivan.

Florida will face off against Virginia to open the 2023 College World Series. Florida and Virginia are scheduled to play on Friday in the second game of the night. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EST.

Florida’s bracket is lined up with Virginia, Oral Roberts, and TCU. The winners of the first two games will play each other on Sunday in the late game. The two losing teams from Friday will meet in the first game on Sunday, an elimination game.

The Gators are 5-3 all-time against Virginia. The last meeting came in the 2015 College World Series. Florida opened the tournament by beating the Miami Hurricanes. The Cavaliers beat Florida 1-0 in the second game. The Gators ended Miami’s season with a 10-2 win and followed it with a 10-5 win over Virginia to force a third and decisive game third game between the two schools.

Florida was powered by home runs from Pete Alonso and Harrison Bader but fell behind 5-4 in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly from Kenny Towns that plated Ernie Clement.
