GAINESVILLE, Fla. — A second Florida Gators pitcher is leaving the program. UF sophomore RHP Alex Philpott entered the portal on Friday after sophomore LHP Jacob Gomberg decided to transfer on Tuesday.

Philpott has two years of eligibility and made 22 appearances this season, finishing with a 3-4 record, 44 strikeouts and a 7.30 ERA in 37.0 innings. He allowed 41 hits, 30 earned runs, seven homers and 18 walks.

Philpott pitched in 13 games highlighted by three starts as a true freshman in 2024. He posted a 2-2 record, 6.90 ERA and .267 batting average against with 28 strikeouts and 16 walks in 30 innings.

Gomberg and Philpott are the third and fourth pitchers that UF is expected to lose from this year’s team, along with LHP Pierce Coppola and RHP Billy Barlow, both of whom participated in the Senior Day ceremony in Florida’s final home game vs. Alabama.

The Gators have landed two RHP pitchers via the transfer portal this week, receiving commitments from Notre Dame pitcher Ricky Reeth on Thursday and UCF pitcher Russell Sandefer on Friday.

UF can return up 17 pitchers in 2026, although it could have some more attrition: starters Liam Peterson (Jr.) and Aidan King (So.), redshirt junior Jake Clemente, juniors Luke McNeillie, Frank Menendez (LHP) and Matthew Jenkins, redshirt sophomores Christian Rodriguez, Caden McDonald and Mason Laurito (LHP), sophomores Jackson Barberi, McCall Biemiller (LHP), Niko Janssens (LHP), Felix Ong, Blaine Rowland and Carson Montsdeoca and redshirt freshman Schuyler Sandford and Joshua Whritenour.
