Two Florida Gators were honored on the SEC All-SEC Freshman team. Quarterback Anthony Richardson and punter Jeremy Crawshaw were both tabbed on Thursday. Texas A&M had a league-leading five players named. Georgia had the second-most with four.

Richardson started one game while playing in eight games during his redshirt freshman season. The Gainesville native completed 59.4% (38-64) of his passing attempts for 529 yards, six touchdowns, and five interceptions. Richardson added 401 rushing yards on 51 carries and scored three rushing touchdowns.

The fanbase began clamoring for Richardson to start after two long touchdown runs during the first two games. However, Richardson dealt with a hamstring injury that kept him out for three weeks. He sustained a concussion during his first start against Georgia, which sidelined him once again. He completed 12-of-20 passes for a total of 82 yards and rushed for a total of 26 yards on 12 attempts against Georgia.

His 80-yard touchdown run at South Florida was tied for the ninth-longest touchdown in program history and tied for longest by a Gators quarterback in the last 25 years. The run was also tied for the third-longest rush by an FBS quarterback in 2021. The Gainesville native has accounted for three touchdown scores of 70-plus yards and is one of three FBS quarterbacks since 1996 to record an 80-plus yard rush and 75-plus yard pass in the same game.

Richardson is the eighth Gators quarterback to make the All-Freshman team. Treon Harris (2014), Tim Tebow (2006), Chris Leak (2003), Rex Grossman (2000), Danny Wuerffel (1993), Donald Douglas (1989), and Kyle Morris (1988) are the other seven.

Crawshaw wasn’t used often, but had a great rookie campaign. The Aussie punted 46 times for an average of 44.02, the third-best in the SEC. Crawshaw’s best game came against Florida State. The redshirt freshman punted five times, averaging 48.6 per kick, and dropped four punts inside the 20. He has booted 18 punts of 50-yards and three of 61-yards plus en route to 19 landing inside the opponent’s 20-yard line. His career-long 69-yard punt vs. Vanderbilt ranks 12th all-time in program history and was the third-longest by an SEC punter this season. In the same game, Crawshaw ripped off a 28-yard rush to convert a successful punt.

Crawshaw is the fifth Florida Gators punter to be named All-SEC Freshman. Johnny Townsend (2014), Eric Wilbur (2003), David Wasielewski (1998), and Shayne Edge (1991), are the other four.
