Florida Gators players of the week vs. Utah
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The No. 12 Florida Gators are a hot topic in the college football universe following a 29-26 win over Utah. On Tuesday, Florida announced the players of the game.
Anthony Richardson, O’Cyrus Torrence, and Ricky Pearsall were the offensive MVPs. Ventrell Miller, Amari Burney, and Antwuan Powell-Randall were defensive MVPs. Donovan McMillion, Jeremy Crawshaw, and Adam Mihalek were the special teams MVPs
Richardson ran for a career-best three touchdowns, including the game-winning two-yard rush that gave Florida a lead late in the fourth quarter. The Gainesville native is the first FBS quarterback to rush for three touchdowns in a game this season.
Richardson is one of only five Florida quarterbacks to rush for three touchdowns in a game since 1996. He joined Emory Jones, Jeff Driskel, Jesse Palmer, and Tim Tebow, who did it twice.
Torrence didn’t look like a G5 offensive lineman playing in his first game. The senior, who has yet to allow a sack in his career, fit right it and played every offensive snap for the Gators. Pearsall led the Gators with 67 yards receiving on just four catches. All four of his receptions moved the chains, resulting in a Florida first down.
Amari Burney drew a tough cover in Utah tight end Brant Kuithe, who had a touchdown and more than 100 yards receiving. That doesn’t change the play of the game, perhaps, where Burney effectively called game with an interception on the second to last play of the game. Miller would finish the game with nine tackles and Powell-Randall with two.

Gators have a unique weekly honor
As you can see in the graphic below, the Gators are honoring “job takers of the week”. What are job takers?
“We recognize 12 players as ‘job takers of the week’,” Napier said on his Monday night radio show. “They’re kind of the scout team, the look team. People don’t realize how much they contribute to the game throughout the week. They may not play a play in the game on Saturday, but they take pride in their work and their role in helping the team prepare.”
“We call them job takers. If you want to play, go take somebody’s job in practice. We’ve had a lot of players throughout the years that, as the season goes, they prove themselves on the scout team and create opportunities for themselves.”
Those 12 players were Thai Bowman, Taylor Spierto, Griffin McDowell and Yousef Mugharbil on offense. Justin Pelic, Kenny Anyaehie, Jack Pyburn and Cahron Rackley on defense. Eddie Battle, Corneilus Barnes, Justin Curtis and Zak Sedaros were named on special teams.
