The 2022 football season is just 58 days away and the Florida Gators will kick off the Billy Napier era with a challenge. The reigning Pac-12 Champion Utah Utes will head to Gainesville on September 3 for a date under the lights at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

Gators Online will go position group by position group, leading up to SEC Media Days on Wednesday, July 20. We’ll look at the players, the depth chart, and give a breakdown of how we view that group and their potential in 2022.

Today we kick that off with the quarterbacks.

The Players

Anthony Richardson (R-So)

Jack Miller (R-Fr)

Jalen Kitna (R-Fr)

Max Brown (Fr)

Projected depth chart

Breakdown

While answering questions for our Georgia Bulldogs site I came to the realization that I’m bullish on Anthony Richardson. The sophomore quarterback, in my opinion, has the chance to be the next great Florida Gators quarterback. Richardson has an unique combination of size and speed. He’s 240-pound quarterback who has been clocked running faster than 20 miles an hour in a game. He has a cannon for an arm and he’ll be the engine that makes Billy Napier’s offense go in 2022.

Jack Miller will back Richardson up, followed by Jalen Kitna and Max Brown. However, the Gators will go as far as Richardosn can carry them this season.

“Our system is very quarterback driven. I think Anthony is excited about the opportunities that come with that,” Napier said. “This summer is huge for him becoming more familiar with our system and learn about defensive structure. Our summer routine for the quarterbacks is pretty rigorous but I wouldn’t trade (him). I can promise you that.”

Richardson has had health issues in the past. A hamstring injury caused him to miss games against Alabama and Tennessee. He missed the South Carolina game after reaggravating that injury as well. Richardson would miss the bowl game after getting knee surgery. The hope is that he’ll be able to stay healthy in 2022. When Richardson is healthy and starting, Florida has a chance any given Saturday.
