GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Back in January, On3 ranked the Florida Gators as a preseason top-10 team in its Way-To-Early Top 25 rankings. After spring ball, On3 still has UF in the top 10.

On Monday, On3’s Andy Staples released his post-spring top 25 and listed Florida at No. 10. That’s down one spot from where he ranked them three months ago.

The Gators had a setback this spring with no passes thrown by starting quarterback DJ Lagway, but Staples thinks they can beat anybody with Lagway healthy.

Gators Online’s Keith Niebuhr first reported on Sunday that Lagway started throwing again last week with a private trainer, according to his father, Derek Lagway Sr.

Staples also touted the addition of two playmakers in Florida’s wide receivers room. Here’s what he had to say about his latest top-10 preseason ranking for UF:

“If QB D.J. Lagway resumes throwing again and his shoulder feels great, then Florida can play with anyone on its brutal schedule. The addition of UCLA transfer receiver J. Michael Sturdivant had the Gators excited, but five-star freshman Dallas Wilson flashing early in spring practice sent expectations for the offense into overdrive. But if Lagway’s shoulder remains an issue, this will be a very different conversation come preseason camp.”

Lagway shared a video of himself throwing Monday on his Instagram story. Earlier this month, On3’s Ari Wasserman released his rankings of the top 10 college quarterbacks in 2025 and ranked Lagway No. 1:

“It still blows my mind there are people out there doubting Lagway is the next great college quarterback. In order to illustrate that point, you could point to his statistics, how quickly he became the starter at Florida, or how the team rallied around him during the Gators surge in the back half of the year. To me, it’s as simple as using your eyes. Lagway is a physical freak that will shine in this sport eventually. His biggest obstacle at the moment is staying healthy.”

Florida closed out 2024 with a four-game winning streak and bowl victory — both for the first time in five years. UF finished the season with eight wins, its most since 2020 — the program’s last winning season.

The Gators are one of nine SEC teams in On3’s post-spring Top 25, along with Texas (1), Alabama (7), Georgia (8), South Carolina (12), Auburn (13), LSU (15), Ole Miss (19) and Tennessee (21).

Florida plays five of those teams in conference play along with Miami, which is ranked No. 20 by Staples.
