Florida Gators release depth chart for game with Charlotte 49ers
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The No. 25 Florida Gators will finish a three-game homestand on Saturday against the Charlotte 49ers. Florida (2-1) is coming off a thrilling 29-16 win over No. 11 Tennessee. Florida Gators head coach Billy Napier was quick to praise his team in the wake of the upset win but stressed the importance of building off the momentum and not simply riding on the high of a rivalry win. “
“There’s a lot of football left to play here. I mean, we’ve just played three games. So, I know we want to put the crown on everybody, but we have much more to prove and we have lots of areas that we can get better. So, we’re looking for more consistency and we want our players to get better at their Sunday and Saturday routine,” Napier said on Wednesday.
“We can improve our attention to detail, we can execute better, and communicate better. And ultimately, we know that the best competition is ahead, and we have to eliminate the margin of error. That’s gotta be much smaller for us. So, I think overall, I’m excited about your evaluation there, but on the inside here, we have work to do and much to prove.”
Florida Gators suspended for the first half
The end of the Florida-Tennessee game turned ugly when Tennessee defensive lineman Omarr Norman-Lott hit Florida quarterback Graham Mertz, as Mertz was about to take a knee at the end of the game. The fracas that ensued ended up with four players, including three Gators, getting suspended for the first half of this week.

Florida redshirt sophomore offensive lineman Damieon George Jr., junior offensive lineman Micah Mazzccua, and redshirt senior tight end Dante Zanders will be suspended for the first half of the Gators’ game with Charlotte on Saturday. The Vols, meanwhile, will be without defensive lineman Omarr Norman-Lott for the first half of their game against UTSA on Saturday.
“Look, you make a decision like that, we had multiple players that screwed up. They compromised the entire team because you may not be available in the future, whatever the case may be. No different than some guy calls you a name at the local bar on Friday night. Are you going to compromise your wife and kids, make a poor decision?
“These things are teachable moments. Ultimately hopefully we do enough on our part to teach ’em.”
