GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Gators will hit the road this week to take on the Kentucky Wildcats. The Gators hope to get several key players back from injury and will have two players back from suspension this week on the road.

Florida is looking to improve to 2-0 in conference play this week. The Wildcats are also 1-0 this season after beating Vanderbilt last weekend. Kentucky will play the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs the weekend after Florida.

“Ton of respect for Kentucky. Got to go play at their place at 12 noon. Ton of respect for Coach Stoops and the program that he’s built, the brand of football that they play,” Billy Napier said during the SEC teleconference. “Obviously for us it’s an SEC opponent, and there’s a certain mentality that comes from playing on the road in this league, so I’ve been pleased with our veteran players, and certainly we have a lot of young players who will be, you know, this will be their first opportunity to go experience those types of things, so we expect it to be a challenge, and we look forward to the opportunities that come with that.”

Notes

  • Florida Gators starting center Kingsley Eguakun (who missed three of four games with an ankle injury) was not listed as injured and was listed as the starting center.
  • Freshman receiver Eugene Wilson (collarbone) was removed from the injury report and is listed as a starter this week.
  • With Dante Zanders out, Arlis Boardingham and Hayden Hansen were listed atop the depth chart at tight end.
  • Trey Smack is now listed as the Gators’ starting kicker. Smack had previously only handled kickoff duties. Florida turned to Smack after Adam Mihalek struggled. Smack was a perfect 5-5 on his field goal tries last week and was named the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week.
  • Kamryn Waites was added back to the depth chart. Waites tore his Achilles tendon prior to spring camp and has only recently been able to get back to practice.
  • Along with Eguakun, Florida will also get Micah Mazzccua back this week.
