Florida Gators release depth chart for home opener against McNeese
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Gators are coming off a season opening loss to the Utah Utes. Florida will host McNeese on Saturday night at 7:30 for the home opener with an opportunity to get a win before starting SEC play.
“We have to continue to try to improve. We’re either getting better or we’re getting worse. You’re going forwards or your going backwards and I think today presented that opportunity,” Napier said on Wednesday. “That’s going to require discipline, it’s going to require discomfort, it’s going to require sacrifice, it’s going to require some patience and tomorrow is Thursday and we’ll continue here to clean up the plan.”
The Gators released a depth chart for the game with McNeese on Wednesday night.
Notes
- Freshman receiver Eugene Wilson was listed as a starting receiver this week. Marcus Burke and Khalil Jackson were both listed as questionable with lower body injuries.
“He’s had a great camp. He’s a very capable player,” Billy Napier said on Wednesday. He has proven to be a very effective player.” - Tight end Tony Livingston was a late addition to the injury report.
- Defensive lineman Chris McClellan was listed as questionable prior to the Utah game. McClellan was able to play, logging 16naps on defense and recorded a quarterback hurry.
- Eguakun wasn’t able to go in the season opener. The veteran center was on the sideline in Salt Lake City in a walking boot. With McNeese coming in and Tennessee on the way, the plan will likely be to to get Eguakun rest in hopes to get him back closer to full strength for Tennessee.
- With Eguakun out, Florida will turn again to Jake Slaughter at center. The redshirt sophomore made his first career start against Utah. The line, overall, struggled to get a push and had three false starts but none were attributed to Slaughter.
- Florida only listed two tight ends on the depth chart. Keon Zipperer is out for the year following knee surgery. Dante Zanders played more snaps than any other tight end in the first game but was absent on the depth chart entirely on Wednesday.
